About the Department

The Department of History, established in 1971, is one of the oldest departments in the College. The department has been upgraded as a Post Graduate and Research Department of History in 1978. The focus of teaching and research in the department is on the different aspects of history, ancient, medieval and modern. Historiography, Archaeology, Archives Keeping, Regional History and Global History are foremost among the thrust areas of study. The curriculum makes it possible for students to have comprehensive as well as in depth knowledge in history so as to enable them to clear competitive examinations and take up administrative, teaching and research careers with confidence in future. UGC approved career oriented Certificate/Diploma/Advanced Diploma Courses on Tourism and Hospitality Management are being conducted to promote employment opportunities.

The Department is equipped with Smart Class Room facility for ICT integrated teaching. Besides the chalk and talk method, teaching is done through Power Point presentations. Students are encouraged to develop their skills of communication through group discussions and individual seminars. The Department conducts national seminars, workshops, symposiums and invites distinguished scholars for giving lectures throughout the academic year. Field trips to places of historical importance are undertaken every year. The Department has set up a History Museum in its premises on 28th January 2004 and received the financial assistance of Rs. 4.60 lakhs for the expansion and maintenance of History Museum from the Ministry of Culture, New Delhi.
